I'm so sorry that it took so long for a new interview! I promised to give you an interview with a 16 year old Dutch girl, but for that one you still have to wait a little bit longer. Now here's an interview with the lovely Aya, a 23 year old mom, who has an amazing style and she has the most beautiful vintage dresses!
Tell us something about yourself?
My name is Aya Smith, I am 23 and am a stay-at-home-mom... with the occasional selling of vintage via ebay.
What does fashion and beautiful clothes mean to you?
To me, fashion is an immediate representation of your personality and being. Though one's physical appearance can be misconstrued, I completely believe what we wear is a indication of the kind of person we are.
How would you describe your personal style?
I think I pull inspiration from so many different things. Wardrobe_Remix, old movies, Japanese fashion and old women. haha.
Wich item in your closet couldn’t you live without?
This is a tough one. Probably my petticoat, but I am rather attached to most of the things in my wardrobe!
For what piece of clothing that hangs in your closet, do you feel the most ashamed of?
Nothing... Because when I have the money to make a purchase, it's always something I really want.. Haha
Do you often have miss-buys or do you wear everything you buy?
I suppose I have... but when I did, I turned around and sold it. Usually something I bought from the thrift store, and didn't have the time to try it on.
Did you ever have the feeling you wanted to fit in as for clothing, because you don’t look like the average person you see walking on the street?
I can honestly say that I've never wanted to "fit-in with the crowd". I am shy and awkward in reality, but there is an artistic side of myself that wants to make a statement through fashion.
Did you ever had unpleasant comments on your clothing, and if so, how did/do you deal with it?
Yes, quite often. Especially when growing up and my fashion-sense was still discovering itself. I went through a goth-phase, and a Japanese "fruits"/Lolita phase.. so I was always very uniquely dressed. Now that my style has calmed down a bit, I get more compliments than rude comments... but those times have stuck with me, even still.
Maybe tips for the people who want to wear their own style, but are afraid?
Don't worry about other people... Only modesty and quality are important in a wardrobe, other than that... YOU make the rules. Experiment, that's the only true way to discover your true fashion sense.
What is your favorite trend right now?
The word "trend" sends a shiver down my spine, but if I had to choose... I would say the trend of "trend-setting", that is very "in" right now.
Which trend do you think is awful?
Most trends are awful, because they are usually based from an accident or poor fit. Such as, baggy pants or popped collars... But the trend I despise the most, is the trend of "seeing how much flesh you can legally show and get away with"... yuck.
Do you have a fashion-icon? Or a website where you get inspiration?
I have so much inspiration! I follow so many lovely ladies on Flickr, but also actresses like Lauren Bacall and vintage magazines.
What would you never, but then also never wear on the fashion area?
I am not a fan of cheap or fragile materials... even when I see something I like, if it's made of a polyester or rayon, I am instantly detoured. Because I want to keep my wardrobe in good condition(hopefully well enough, that I may pass them on to the next generation). So, you would never find me wearing those types of materials.
